Welcome

It is indeed my honor to welcome you to the United States for the 36th ICAR Session. With its phenomenal wonders of nature, Niagara Falls, New York, provides a magnificent setting for business and pleasure. Not too far from Niagara Falls you’ll discover agriculture’s bounty. New York State, known as the Empire State, produces and markets a wide variety of foods and agricultural byproducts. Among the 50 states in the United States, New York ranks third for milk, wine and grape, cabbage and maple syrup production. When it comes to livestock agriculture, New York is known primarily for its dairy cows. You’ll have the opportunity to see some of the state’s dairy farms when touring western New York on 19 June. Through these farm tours, you’ll quickly discover that there’s more than one way to manage a U.S. dairy operation.

Like many countries around the world, the number of farms involved in livestock agriculture is declining. However, the remaining farms are, in general, getting larger. Contrary to what some may believe, not all U.S. farms are large. Size varies significantly from one farm to the next. This presents challenges for providing products and services.

Come join us in Niagara Falls, New York, 16-20 June, for a memorable and educational experience. Let the Falls mesmerize you and let the speakers stimulate your problemsolving and management skills. I’m confident you’ll find this event a worthwhile experience.
