Dairy One
Cooperative Inc.
Visit Dairy One Cooperative Inc., Ithaca, New York, an information technology
cooperative. Dairy One provides Dairy Herd Improvement records services and
herd management software throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions of
the United States. The Dairy One forage laboratory is recognized as a leader,
both nationally and internationally, for its fast, reliable analysis of feed
and forages, as well as soil, water and manure analyses.
QMPS
Tour The Quality Milk Production Services Program (QMPS) lab of Cornell
University's College of Veterinary Medicine, which promotes milk quality by
reducing mastitis levels in dairy herds. QMPS offers a variety of services,
notably on-farm evaluations of management and equipment, and whole herd milk
cultures. Based on the findings, the program's Extension veterinarians advise
producers, veterinarians and milk inspectors regarding optimal practices for
improving herd health and farm management.
Barbano's
Lab
In Dr. David Barbano's lab at Cornell University you'll learn about:

Improvement of analytical testing methods for measurement of fat, protein,
lactose and solids content of milk and other dairy foods.

Influence of mastitis and milk somatic cell count on dairy product quality and
yield.

Factors that influence manufacturing costs for cheese and whey products.

Improvement of natural cheese quality, production efficiency and yield through
process control.

Utilization of low concentration factor casein concentrates from
microfiltration for cheesemaking and milk serum protein concentrates from
microfiltration in beverages.
In addition, you'll visit the Northeast Dairy Foods Research Center, based at
Cornell University, which serves as a pilot plant for dairy product
innovations.
Following your visit to Dairy One and Cornell University, you'll join the other
ICAR participants for a barbecue at Genesee County Park, and then return to
Niagara Falls.
