The USA animal agriculture industry with the National Dairy Herd Information Association (NDHIA) as coordinator is proud to host the 2008 International Committee for Animal Recording (ICAR) 36th Session and Interbull Meeting, June 16-20, in Niagara Falls, New York, United States. With its phenomenal wonders of nature, Niagara Falls provides a magnificent setting for business and pleasure. This is the first time in ICAR’s 70 plus years of operation that the USA has played host to a biennial session of ICAR.

ICAR looks at and addresses many different livestock species and economically important areas of production and genetics. With members in 47 countries, ICAR’s aim is to promote the development and improvement of activities related to performance recording and the evaluation of farm livestock. Task forces, working groups and subcommittees – ranging from animal identification to recording devices to milk analysis to artificial insemination to animal recording data to genetic analysis – drive much of ICAR’s work.

Interbull is an ICAR subcommittee that is responsible for promoting the development and execution of international genetic evaluations for most of the economically important traits in dairy cattle, but a group has been formed to work on beef genetic evaluations also. Interbull efforts in genetic evaluations is through coordinating international communication and research efforts and providing multiple country dairy cattle evaluations to more than 25 countries.
